INTERVIEW WITH SERBIAN SOCIETY

1.       Serbian Foot and Ankle Society is relatively new in EFAS. What motivated you to apply and be part of the network?

Serbian Foot and Ankle Society was founded in January 2017 with great help from professor Xavier Martin Oliva.  We became part of the EFAS family in the same year. We are the only Foot and Ankle Society in the region of western Balkan and our motivation is to develop this part of orthopedic surgery in our and neighboring countries.

2.  What has been your experience of being part of EFAS so far – as a society and as members?

EFAS, as a home of foot and ankle surgery on our continent, is the best way for us to spread knowledge and idea in this part of Europa. EFAS courses and symposiums give us the opportunity to adopt knowledge and experience from the best europian foot and ankle surgeons. It is a great chance for us to improve our practice and to consult colleagues about complicated cases, especially through clinical case reports.

3.  You have organized one of the first Balkan F&A surgery meetings in the past. How has it gone and what are the new plans for the events and courses?

We organized the First Serbian Foot and Ankle symposium in Military Medical Academy in Belgrade,  in March 2018, and had more than 150 participants, which was a great success if you take into consideration that Serbia has Just 350 orthopedic surgeons.

We have also organized an international symposium with the great assistance of professor Xavier Martin Oliva and Helka Koivu in March this year. We had lecturers and participants from the Balkan region but also from Russia, Ukraine, Germany, and Bulgaria. Next year we will organize our third symposium.
