Introduction Kris Buedts
Thursday 9 April 2020
Spring has arrived, but nobody would have thought that the start of this seasons could have changed our lives so drastically. What started as a mysterious disease in China has developed in a pan epidemy affecting everybody of us in our daily live, family live and in our professional practice. Almost over whole Europe elective medical care has come to a stop. In Orthopaedics and especially in foot and ankle surgery this has an impact on the quality of live of our patients. Quarantining also has a negative side effect, patients are afraid to contact their specialists or hospital and are suffering at home.
Every country is dealing with covid-19 disease, some countries still have a heavy burden on their hospital organisation while others are already preparing a careful exit. Either way this has an enormous impact on the normal daily health care, we were accustomed to deliver for our patients in our fast-evolving speciality. For example, in Belgium the exit will be very complicated dealing with several governments and responsible cabinets in this Belgian Federal Landscape and probably could be politicised by powerful stakeholders whose primary interest is not to give/support the health care we were expected to give before.
That is why we are reaching out to you with this newsletter where you can find testimonies from members of our community from all of Europe.
I would like to express my gratitude for their contribution, and I hope this newsletter will support you all and bring some springtime in your difficult routines. Thanks Anthony, Manuel, Nikos, Alessio , Francois, Joris, Yves and of course our MCO secretariat
Take care and stay safe
