2019 Travelling Fellowship

The European Foot and Ankle Society has launched last year applications for the 2019 Travelling Fellowship. The Fellowship was granted to two trainee orthopaedic surgeons* interested in foot and ankle surgery. 

The fellow finalist were Kirill Mikhaylov, Russia; and Alexander Gerchev Bulgaria

The Fellows travelled to 3 European centres proposed by the EFAS Council, visiting, observing and assisting some of the top foot and ankle surgeons in Europe. At the end of the fellowship, fellows have presented the outcomes during the EFAS 2019 Advanced Symposium on 6th December.

*Eligibility

Medically qualified trainee orthopaedic surgeons (not yet certified) residing and working in countries that European Council member states, with specific interest and experience in the field of foot and ankle. Applicants must be aged 38 years or younger on 1st January 2019. Applicants must commit to availability for travel in the period from November 22 to December 7, 2019 and provision of a written report upon completion of the fellowship.

The proposed centres may change due to circumstances beyond the control of EFAS in which case alternative centres will be used. 

*Expenses

Basic travel expenses for Economy travel, basic food and accommodation at each centre will be provided with extras to be covered by the fellows. Successful applicants will be required to make travel and accommodation arrangements themselves and submit an invoice for travel and accommodation following the fellowship programme for reimbursement. The EFAS Secretariat will provide advice on suitable hotel accommodation close to the centres.


The closing date for receipt of applications was June 15th, 2019.
